Pay: From $29.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week

Equivity is seeking an experienced California Civil Litigation Paralegal to support attorneys handling a wide range of matters, including real property disputes, business and contract litigation, employment law, and medical or professional defense.

This position offers the opportunity to work with multiple California-based law firms, including one specializing in estate and healthcare litigation involving skilled nursing facilities and elder abuse defense. We are looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented professional with strong knowledge of California civil procedure who can manage multiple cases, anticipate attorney needs, and thrive in a remote environment.

What You’ll Do

· Case Management: Manage civil litigation cases from intake through trial and post-judgment, ensuring deadlines are met and case files remain organized and up to date.

· Document Preparation and Filing: Draft, edit, and file pleadings, discovery, subpoenas, and motions in compliance with California Rules of Court and local filing rules. Coordinate e-filings and paper filings with courts across California and maintain proof of service and filing confirmations.

· Discovery Support: Prepare and respond to discovery requests, track deadlines, review and summarize responses, and coordinate the collection and production of documents.

· Legal Research: Conduct factual and legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, or comparable tools. Prepare concise summaries for attorney review and assist with citation checking and formatting.

· Trial Preparation: Assist with pretrial logistics, including exhibit lists, witness lists, jury instructions, and trial binders. Provide direct support during trial as needed.

· Calendar Management: Maintain case calendars, monitor deadlines, and coordinate hearing schedules, filings, and appearance dates.

· Client and Court Communication: Professionally interact with clients, court personnel, opposing counsel, experts, and vendors to facilitate smooth case progress and filing coordination.

· Administrative Support: Handle scheduling, document organization, scanning, filing correspondence and pleadings, and ensuring consistent workflow in compliance with firm procedures.

Job requirements

About You

· Experience: Minimum of 3 years of recent California civil litigation experience, including discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation. Experience in estate litigation, elder abuse, or healthcare defense is a plus.

· Education: Bachelors degree required; Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program preferred but not required.

· Knowledge: Strong command of California Code of Civil Procedure, court rules, and e-filing procedures across state and federal courts.

· Skills: Excellent writing, communication, and analytical abilities; exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and legal research databases. Experience with Clio, One Legal, or other case management platforms preferred.

· Work Style: Self-motivated, dependable, and able to balance multiple priorities independently while maintaining clear communication with supervising attorneys.

· Location: Candidates based in California are strongly preferred, as occasional in-person trial support may be required.

· PC and Windows users preferred.
